To be considered for a truck driving job with Shaffer, you must be at least 22 years old and have one year of verifiable tractor trailer experience and a Class A CDL issued by your state of residence. (Shaffer also accepts qualified student drivers who have successfully completed training at an approved school.) You must have a stable work history and an acceptable driving record, and you must pass the company and DOT physical exam, drug test, and driving test.

All applicants cleared for hire by Shaffer Trucking are required to attend truck driver orientation at one of four locations: New Kingstown, Pennsylvania; Lincoln, Nebraska; Wilmer, Texas; or Lenoir City, Tennessee. In the classroom, drivers are introduced to Shaffer’s mobile technology and given a trip planning refresher as well as a review of safety guidelines. Drivers also complete a pre-trip inspection, coupling/uncoupling procedure, and a road course to get ready to drive the open road.

And Shaffer Trucking offers one of the most comprehensive truck driver pay packages in the industry, being independently certified as a Top Paying Carrier by the National Transportation Institute. Shaffer pays drivers using Rand McNally Practical Route Miles, which reflect about 2 to 4 percent more miles and more accurately represent their route. Additional compensation includes stop-off pay and breakdown pay.

Not only that, but Shaffer Trucking also offers health, dental, and vision insurance to drivers and their dependents. You can even set up health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, and basic life insurance coverage and short term disability coverage are automatically provided. Retirement benefits are available as well – you can combine your 401(k) contribution with the company-paid profit sharing plan contribution. In addition, drivers receive jury duty pay, military leave, and paid vacation time based on years of service. Plus, with Shaffer’s no-cost Rider Policy, you can take friends and family – or even a dog or cat – out on the open road with you.

Don’t take shortcuts in your career – do it right with Shaffer Trucking.
