Professional Home Services Jobs

Professional Home Services Jobs

Because families are busier than ever, more and more people are turning to professional home services to help ease the burdens of taking care of their homes. If you like working with your hands, building things, yard work, excel at working on or in houses, or have a desire to put your construction and handyman skills to use, then a job in the home services profession could be the right fit for you. Home services can include anything from carpet installation to appliance maintenance to painting to lawn maintenance to house cleaning. The home service profession includes everything from self-employed business owners with the ability to set their own hours and hire employees, to full-time or part-time workers employed by a company. Employment in the professional home services field is expected to grow as more homeowners hold onto their houses for a longer period of time as the country comes out of the recession. They need help with everything from weekly cleaning to small and large repairs. Also, banks stuck with a gut of homes in foreclosure need skilled workers to repair them and keep those houses looking nice for potential sale. Training can come through years as an apprentice or employee working for a construction, lawn maintenance, or cleaning company, through self-taught instruction, or from classes at certain home improvement stores and colleges. A well-rounded home services professional must be prepared to work in many situations, including hot or inclement weather conditions, on roofs or ladders, or in dirty and cramped attics, basements, or crawl spaces. Sometimes heavy lifting is involved and the transportation of large quantities of materials and tools is often needed. Professionals in this field might need to invest in a wide range of tools, construction materials, or cleaning supplies to meet their clients needs. Professional home workers who own their own businesses will need to build their reputation through quality work, have a keen eye for detail, knowledge of industry costs for accurate job estimates, promote their services, and need organizational, marketing, and business skills.
